A large amount of pills and medication of various colours. Highlighting the need for Medicine safety.

Medicine safety: Children are curious by nature, and it makes sense that they would be even more curious when it comes to medication. Many medications look and taste like sweets.

While it’s important to encourage children to explore and discover new things, when it comes to medication, we want to be careful to keep them safe.

The medicine safety session covers information about the different types of medication there are, along with advising of the dangers of taking medication which has not been prescribed.

It will also inform children of the dangers of household products if not used for their intended purpose.

Pupils Will:

  • Have an understanding of the different types of medication available.

  • Have an understanding why medication is used.

  • Be aware of the dangers of taking medication which has not been prescribed for them.

  • Be aware of the safety issues required when using/taking medication.

  • Be aware of the potential dangers posed by household products if not used for their intended purpose.

  • Be aware of how to keep themselves safe and what to do in the event they find any discarded medicine/needles etc.

  • Who to talk to if they have any questions or are worried.
